Piano Recital

Brynna and Nathan had their first piano recital. All the kids were so professional. They got up, introduced themselves and introduced the music they would be playing. Nathan had only been in piano for 3 weeks when the recital came, so I was proud of him for getting up there and doing it. He sat real good for all the other kids, but after one of the boys played the "Star Wars" theme, Nathan hummed that for the rest of the recital.

Brynna was extremely nervous. I could see the tension throughout her entire body. Her fingers moved like the wind and her talent shone through.

Suzanne, their teacher, has blessed our lives. Her patience, love of music, and enthusiasm has given my kids the best environment to learn in. We are grateful to her. I also would like to give kuddos to myself for sitting through piano practices. Seeing and hearing the kids play with such pride and confidence made all those times of wanting to slit my wrists worth the headache.

Father-Son Outing

The boys are away! Jason and Nathan were excited for their male bonding time over a camp fire. They went camping with the Priesthood up at Flagstaff. It was a bit chilly for May. In the morning they woke to a brisk 30 degrees. The details were slim, but I heard about a marshmallow snow ball fight, finding elk tracks, and Nathan having a great time with his friends. The only disappointment from Nathan was that there were porta-potties. He really wanted to be able to "go" in the trees.

While away, Brynna and I had our "girl" time. We ate out for dinner, shopped, ate ice cream, snuggled and watched movies. We ate breakfast in the morning together. While out, Brynna said, "Mom, my cheeks hurt." Figuring it had something to do with her braces, she corrected me in saying, "I just can't stop smiling, I am so happy."

Primary Talent Show

This is one of our favorite activities to go to. You just can't buy entertainment like this. The best part is the Primary asks the kids themselves what their talents are, and it is fun to see what they think they are good at.

Brynna, of course, loves to sing. She wanted to be with a group of friends to sing a song. They were supposed to be a bit more animated but got a bit of stage fright. They definitely had fun with their props at the practices. Brynna makes us happy hearing her sing around the house all the time.

Nathan, on the other hand, performed a new talent that I don't believe has ever been displayed at a talent show. His talent was "arm music" (AKA arm farts). He figured out different ways to do it and even did some music with his legs. Almost every morning the last week, he had figured out different methods. When I asked him who was teaching him this, he replied, "I think about different ways before I go to sleep." Now, if only we can direct that determination and philosophy for good. But, he is only 6 once. And we love him in all his corkiness.

April 2008
Brynna turns 11!!

I cannot believe she is 11. That means I am getting older! Brynna had a great birthday. She had a sleepover with Caity, Reagan, Emma, and Brittany. We had a Hannah Montana karaoke night along with playing the American Idol game. It was all about the singing. Jason was ready to get out of the house about 20 minutes into it. Brynna really wanted me to make her birthday cake, mistake numero uno. Mistake numero dos: no candles, notice the tea light. My mom can make the most beautiful cakes, a talent I was not blessed with. Although, I continue to try. Other than the frosting sliding off, I thought I would make peach frosting, which ended up looking like cheez whiz. I am so looking forward to my mother moving here to take over this task for me! Anyway, we are so proud of Brynna and how far she has come. She did not have an easy start in this life, but has continually amazed us by her determination, courage, loving spirit, and a new found sense of sarcasm.
