With the Dysart override approaching, I have written editorials to be published in all the newspapers. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if those will be printed. We've been having issues with one particular paper, the Arizona Republic. Damage has been done with statements made and unbalanced reports not based on good investigation. So far, the documentation we've used to request having the incorrect information printed correctly has not been honored and some people I know who have sent in pro override editorials have not been printed. It has gone as far as PTA groups talking of buying 1/2 page ads to set the record straight since the Arizona Republic won't write the facts. Over the last year, I have learned more and more not to trust the local T.V. news reports nor everything in newspapers...its a business for them...it's about controversy and not caring who gets hurt in the process.
So in my own way...I want to make sure my feelings of the override get out there...so alas, my poor blog must take another one of my rantings.
Say 'Yes' to our Children and Future of Our Community
Arguments have been voiced against the March 9th override. Of those arguments, I have yet to hear how a 'no' vote would benefit the children of the Dysart district. Politics and money drive many decisions which have lasting effects upon our society. Too many times, individuals make choices that fulfill the 'here and now' without looking to the future and the consequences of those choices. Proof of this is evident in our economy today.
We are blessed to live in a country with the freedom of choice and opportunity. With choices and opportunities we as individuals are able to contribute, compete, and succeed. When our opportunities and choices are threatened, we make our voices known and stand for our freedom and rights. Our children and youth, who are not yet able to vote, rely on us to prepare their path for a bright future and make choices based on their needs. By supporting the March 9th override with a 'yes' vote, voters will provide more and better opportunities for our future generation, highly qualified educators will have the support they need, and our community as a whole will be improved because great schools make for great communities.
Living within the state of Arizona, where education is severely underfunded, it is our duty as members of this community to ensure students from the Dysart Unified School District are graduating with knowledge, skills, and endless opportunities for the 21st century.
